5. The use of insurance exchanges, wholesalers and program administrators will be on the rise.
The real lesson here for the independent retail agents is NOW is the time to cultivate alternative markets, as your preferred carriers withdraw from programs and/or geographies. As carriers struggle to "get rate," they will also work just as hard to "cut risk." Don't be caught empty handed when you go to protect your marketplace. They'll remember those who were there for them during tough times. And remember - not so fondly - those who weren't. (You SHOULD participate in my interview with MarketScout CEO, Richard Kerr. (See link on the front page of this site.)
6. Agency consolidation will be on the rise.
Agency value generally goes up as the market hardens. That makes NOW a desirable time to buy...well before the market hits its peak. Multiples will be good. Big brokers will be hungry. And, I'm sure there are plenty of worn-out agents who are ready to raise their hand and say "for sale." The future of the industry will have fewer players. And they will be bigger. YOU should have a serious Growth Plan in place for this year.
7. Google Search Engine Factors Will Continue to Evolve
Google is vulnerable to loss of market share...just like any other company. To combat that, they continue to evolve their search algorithms so the user “gets what they want.” They also need to run fast to stay ahead of marketers who learn the tricks and manipulate them unethically. Hence, SEO prediction: Anchor Text and Link Metrics will decrease in value. (Anchor Text refers to internal hyperlinks. Link Metrics refers to outside links.) Why? Because Google puts a “low trust factor” on low ranking links. Strong links still matter. Rich content always matters.
As always, YOUR SEO is game that must be played constantly and played well. Amateurs don't get invited to this tournament.
8. Bing Market Share Will Increase
Bing’s market share has been growing and will continue. Currently, they own 15.6% of the search market. Some predict their share of the pie chart will be as much as 20-25%. Reasonable prediction: 18-20%. Do NOT ignore your Bing strategies.
